| The Mercator Projection is a very common map
projection. However, it is a poor representation of our world because it
makes non-equatorial areas look a lot bigger than they actually are. It
was designed for navigation, and is still one of the best maps for showing
the direction from Point A to Point B (as long as you don't have to go
over the North or South Pole; the Mercator Projection sets the poles at
Infinity).
